Welcome to Diaphora’s Elcor Hamlet

Months ago, we were toying with ideas for Diaphora, our upcoming short story podcast. As fans of the popular Mass Effect games from Bioware, we wanted to feature something set in that universe, and Elcor Hamlet came to mind!

We want to create the abridged version of Shakespeare’s Hamlet featuring an all-elcor cast—something Bioware teased us fans about throughout the games with their Elcor Hamlet commercials—and put it in a 40 minute audio podcast episode.

What are elcor?

Elcor in all their grace.

The elcor are massive creatures that stand on four muscular legs featured in the Mass Effect games. Elcor speech is heard by most species as a flat, ponderous monotone. That’s because their species normally speak through scents, so they never evolved oral speech like other species. Therefore, they often announce their feelings or intentions before speaking.

More about elcor speech gets explained in-game, which you can listen to here.

Below are some written examples.

Fearful wonder: Angels and ministers of grace defend us.

“Insincere endorsement: You have not experienced Shakespeare until you have heard him in the voice of elcor.”

Auditions

We are currently seeking voice actors to provide their voice for our Elcor Hamlet production. The deadline for submitting auditions is Sunday, April 20, 2025. Two roles are open to either male or female interpretations in an attempt to provide more gender balance in an otherwise male-heavy play.

After the deadline, we’ll go over all the auditions we’ve received, decide on the cast, and inform the chosen voice actors throughout May 2025. We’re aiming for November 7, 2025 (N7 day) as our release date. The episode will be available on popular podcatchers under “Diaphora” and published on YouTube under “Diaphora” on the channel of Path of Dragons Radio.

For more information, see the audition sheet.

For fun, we also made a little audio promotion set in Mass Effect’s Citadel:
